We are delighted that Dr Emma Bridges will be joining the ICS in September as Public Engagment Fellow
Dr Bridges is currently a lecturer in classical studies at the Open University following positions at Durham and Oxford. Her book Imagining Xerxes, developed from her Durham doctoral thesis, was published to great acclaim by Bloomsbury in their series on classical reception. She is currently engaged on a project which explores the comparisons between ‘military wives’ in mythical narratives (focusing in particular on Penelope, Andromache and Clytemnestra) and the experiences of their modern counterparts.
She is also well known for bringing classics to those who have not had much access to it, and for running the Facebook group Classics International which has nearly 9000 members.
At the ICS she will carry on her research and also lead our public engagement activity, both in London and around the country. We are looking forward very much to her arrival.
